You don’t need an account or any software. Open the link you received, enter the password (and your name if the room asks for it), and the picture starts.
Browsers and devices
- Mac and Windows: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- iPad and iPhone: Safari on iPadOS or iOS 17 or later, or the free Gradetonic app. On older versions the room offers the app automatically.
The picture runs less than two seconds behind the grading suite. All viewers see the same moment.
The best picture
Gradetonic is review quality, not a reference monitor. A few settings make a real difference:
- iPad Pro: turn on Reference Mode (Settings › Display & Brightness › Advanced) and turn off True Tone, Night Shift and Auto-Brightness.
- Mac: turn off True Tone and Night Shift, and use a display profile that matches your screen. Be aware that browsers on macOS may show video slightly differently from your grading suite.
- Surround: use the surround button next to the player to set the color around the picture: black, dark grey, mid grey or white. Press B to switch.
- Use full screen, and keep other bright windows out of view.
For final, color-critical approval, your colorist may still ask you to come to the suite or to a calibrated display. Have a reference monitor with SDI input? You can play the room on it: see Watch on an SDI reference monitor.
If something goes wrong
- The picture stops after you switch networks (from Wi-Fi to 4G, or turning a VPN on or off): reload the page.
- The picture stutters: close other streaming tabs and check your connection; each viewer needs about 10 Mbit/s download.
- “Wrong password” or the room is closed: ask the person who invited you; they can open the room or send a new link.
