Gradetonic receives your picture from an encoder. Which one fits depends on what’s already in your suite.
| You have | Best option | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| A spare SDI or HDMI output (DeckLink, UltraStudio, AJA, or a monitor loop) | A hardware encoder on that output | Hardware encoders |
| A capture card in a computer, no hardware encoder | OBS with the capture card as source | Stream with OBS |
| Only your grading or editing computer | OBS capturing a full-screen viewer or an NDI feed | From your editing software |
What we recommend
- For daily sessions: a hardware encoder. It runs without a computer, starts with the suite and gives the steadiest picture.
- For trying it out or the occasional session: OBS with a capture card. Free, and you can import our profile in one step.
- No spare output at all: OBS on the same computer works, but it shares CPU and GPU with your grading or editing software.
Whatever you choose, the settings are the same: 1080p, H.264, 8 Mbit/s constant bitrate, keyframe every second. Use Test your stream in your admin to check the picture before your client joins.
